Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would see Lebron play in a Philadelphia 76ers jersey. He could’ve returned to Miami and played alongside Giannis, or joined forces with Steph in the Bay, or even returned home to Cleveland. Instead he chose the Sixers.

(If you want to see why this is a nightmare for Stephen Curry checkout this article: Lebron Is Steph Curry’s Last Hope)

All this time, we thought his decision would be about happiness and his family and even golf. But it turns out the only factor that weighed into his decision was winning.

LeBron just signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the Sixers, with a player option in the second year. An absolute steal for the caliber of player he is.

Now Philadelphia has a monster starting lineup consisting of Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, LeBron James, and Joel Embiid.

Just two years ago, LeBron James was the driving force for the Lakers as the number one option. Now he will be the fourth option on a team behind Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid.

The one weakness everybody says this team has is defense. This team can go off for 140 points any given night, but will they be able to stop the other team from doing the same?

However, what people are forgetting is that there’s only one ball to go around for all five of these players. Meaning the players who are used to having the ball in their hands all the time can now focus more of the energy on defense. For instance, VJ Edgecombe last year was the third option on this team and, some nights, was forced to go out and score 25 to give the Sixers a chance to win. Now, as the fifth option, when fully healthy, he’s able to fully dial in on defense. With his physical attributes, he definitely has the defensive tools to become one of the best defenders in the league.

You also can’t forget that Jalen Brown is one of the best perimeter defenders in the league. In addition to those two, they also signed Dean Wade this offseason, who was  arguably the Cavaliers’ best perimeter defender.

Add a somewhat healthy Joel Embiid at center who also can be a defensive anchor. This team is actually just fine on that end of the floor

On paper, this might be the best team in the NBA.

But in reality, there are a lot of problems for this team they’re gonna have to address.

First off, there are a lot of players who are on this team who want credit. Jalen Brown left Boston because he wanted to be the guy. Now he has to share the floor with LeBron James, who is going to want credit as well. Plus, Joel Embiid, who probably still thinks of himself as an MVP-caliber player. The problem is, like I said earlier, there’s only one ball on the floor for all of them, not to forget Tyrese Maxey who averaged 28 points last year and VJ Edgecombe who averaged 16 points as a rookie.

And then, of course, you have the injury bug haunting them. Joel Embiid can’t stay healthy for more than 15 games at a time andLeBron James will be 42 years old for the majority of next season.

However, if they’re able to overcome these two big hurdles, they will be the best team in the East. If not, we might genuinely see the biggest failed super team in NBA history.

All I know is the Sixers next year are going to be must-see TV either because they’re going to be super good with all the talent they have, or because of all the drama that is going to unfold.

As a Raptors fan, this Sixers team would be pretty terrifying on paper. But with all those big personalities and the injury concerns, it could either be an absolute powerhouse or a total mess. Either way, I’d definitely be watching.
